The Charming Relais Palazzo dei Pavoni has a history that is closely intertwined with that of L’Aquila and its historic center. Located within the splendid “Carli Porcinari” noble palace, which was finely renovated and restored to its original glory following the 2009 earthquake, it is now a luxury B&B that preserves the charm and atmosphere of the era’s grandeur while offering modern comforts.
The entrance to the palace is majestic, featuring a twisted portal of Durazzesque influence that frames the magnificent and contemporary wooden door—the only one of its kind in the city—enriched by a bas-relief depicting the stylized family crest of the former owners: the Counts Carli.
Once past the entrance, as is common in many of Italy’s historic centers, you find yourself in a monumental courtyard with a side well. Ascending the staircase and walking through the loggia, you reach a secondary staircase leading to the second floor where the Relais is located—a very private and charming area.
